Moo Cow Music Band Review

Moo-Cow-Music BandAt $9.99 I think this app is a little over priced.  $4.99 would be a little better price range for this app.  You can’t blame the developer though, it’s not often you get to walk on stage at an Apple press event to announce your new app…I might over price my app by a few bucks too.

The app allows you to record and lay multiple tracks down which is kind of cool.  It also has a few pre-recorded songs.  The nice thing about the pre-recorded songs is that it highlights the guitar licks or piano keys as they are played so you can learn from the sound track how to play the song.  Since I am not too musically inclined I wish there were more sound samples to help teach me a few of the ropes.

Overall this is a fun app for the musical novice, it may be more useful for someone who actually knows and understands music.  Somewhat overpriced…I give it a 3 out of 5 stars.

Subscription based iTunes may be a rumor.

Reports floated around the net yesterday that Apple may be in discussion about a subscription based music service for the iPhone. Today Business Week has released a story and said, “Not so fast”.

While they believe the time may be right for an all you can eat service, they report that no official talks are under way at this time.
The fact is that iTunes in it’s current state helps sell hardware for Apple. But iPod sales are slowing and competition is increasing from the likes of Amazon and other music vendors that already offer a subscription based service.

In order to keep sales of the iPod up and get new people interested in the device Apple may be forced to look in to a subscription based model. If that happens they are more competition to the likes of satellite radio which will have an even harder time trying to define itself in the market place.

iPhoneAccording to the Financial Times, Apple is considering a “all you can eat” music option for the iPhone. Music would be subscription based or payed as a premium up front at the time of purchase of the iPhone.

Users would then have full access to all music on the iTunes store for the life of the device. The music industry and Apple are negotiating over royalty fees at this time and it is not clear if or when an agreement will fall in to place.

iPhone is open to 3rd Party development except…

Apple’s iPhone scored another round of praise and publicity after unveiling a program that will let other companies create applications for the popular device.

But the excitement didn’t make its way to the mobile music market. Although those hoping to add mobile games, corporate e-mail accounts and other content to their iPhone are thrilled, music services see little opportunity to use the groundbreaking device as a means of advancing the enjoyment or acquisition of music from mobile phones.

The background: Apple released a beta software development kit (SDK) that gives programmers various tools to develop applications that not only run on the iPhone and iPod Touch, but also take advantage of several key capabilities — such as the touch-screen and motion sensor. In June, Apple will issue the AppStore, an update to iTunes that will enable users to buy and download these third-party applications much like they already do music and video.

iPhone SpeakersHere is a handy hardware solution for the iPhone / iPod Touch owner who needs a little more volume.

Speakers from LiveSpeakR, they are due out this summer, pricing not yet available.  They hook in to the USB port and provide a stand in the back to keep the iPhone upright.

It has dual power supply (batteries or AC).

(iPhoneAppReview comment)  If they made this in black and moved the speakers to the top corners they might get a certain endorsement from a well known mouse over at Disney… M-I-C-K-E-Y

Just thought good luck to you LiveSpeakR, if you ever want to advertise here let me know…  ;)
