Picking an internet service is very important. As we become more and more reliant on the internet for our news and entertainment, we can no longer afford to have internet down time. Internet down time can cost you money if your business is reliant upon the web to do business. Make sure you pick a reliable service that you can depend on.
Once you find a reliable service the next question you must ask your self is how fast of a connection do I need. If you want to use the internet for entertainment, like youtube or netflix you will need a dsl provider at a minimum. DSL provides enough speed to watch streaming video and download large files that are necessary for today’s online entertainment. If you watch a lot of online video the more speed the better. DSL is also great if you purchase music online from services like the iTunes store as you can download songs at a much faster pace. Also many software companies are distributing their software by download, purchasing software online can save you money as well since the creator passes the distribution savings on to you.
However, if your only requirement is to get online to read news and you want to save as much money as possible you may be able to use a dial up service. Dial up, which is much slower than DSL is fine for reading content online. Don’t expect much performance on feature rich sites that have a lot of media or video, but it is the most cost effective way to get your feet wet with the vast amount of information available on the web.
