I’m a single girl, so I thought this app might turn out to be a simple man-to-English dictionary that could give me an insight into what guys are actually saying to me. As in, “oh, that was flirting.” Yes, gentleman, it’s sometimes hard to tell.
I was very interested in this app until I saw the title page which said that it was written by real girls for real guys. Well, darn, I already know what girls want guys to say to them. I read the about page for the app and saw that it was inspired by a girl, but written by guys. Ok, I might be interested again.
Spendthrift Studios put this app together an it divides text messages into four categories: Flirting, Making Plans, Icebreakers and Ditching Plans. I’m torn on the usefulness of this app. I agree that all the messages are definitely ones any girl would like to hear from a guy, but I wasn’t sure that guys would actually use these messages in real life. Under the flirting category, “I want to sleep in the corner of your smile” seemed pretty wussy for a guy to say. As well as “What great trials and traumas and triumphs have I missed in your life?“ under icebreakers, or the hilariously goofy, “I have ants in my pants–so let‘s dance.”
So I took it to the streets. I went to a party that had a guest list of mixed age men and women, both single and married. The women loved the messages, none of the men said they would ever text a girl with most of the options in the app. There were a few message suggestions that all the guys were ok with, such as “You‘re fun, can I see you again?” and “I think you‘re adorable.”
“The ditching plans category had the most usable text messages with options such as “Can’t make it. My boss called and I have to head over to the office. I miss you.”
I would say this app is great if a guy would actually text the messages to a girl and I personally am thrilled when any man takes the time to say something nice to me. What would be even better would be an app that explained what men are really saying, especially the “I had a great time, I’ll call you.” which really seems to mean, “I had a horrible time, I’m taking your number out of my phone as soon as I get in my car, before I peal out of your driveway like a maniac, trying to get away from you as fast as I can.”
This is the second version with all the bugs from the first version fixed. Spendthrift Studios also promises to update with a lot more messages.
