TextOnPhone: free service for iPhone and iPod Touch users

textonphone-iphone.jpgI found a site today called TextOnPhone.com. Browse there on the iPhone or iPod Touch and check out some of the 30,000 books and documents that they have online for your reading pleasure.

The great thing about this service is that you can go to their site with a computer and upload your own documents to their server. You will then have access to them later from your iPhone.

I have been studying a lengthy PDF file for the last few days and have bee carrying the print version around with me. Now I will have it with me every where I go. All I had to do was simply copy and paste, upload to the server, go back to my iPhone and there the document was waiting to be read.

Their interface is nice too, bookmarks, single tap on a page to move to the next, etc. While it probably will not replace the convenience of reading a real book it is nice to have all this documentation when needed.

Oh yeah, one more bonus feature. Besides caching a few pages ahead while you read it has an option for extended times away from edge or wifi. So if you are getting on a plane and want to read a book, tell it to cache 300 pages for you. it will download what you need so that it is there to read when you need it.

I like this app and if you have some documents that you need access to from time to time I think you will too.
