TuneTug Powers Parties with Interactive Playlists
Social music application TuneTug, developed by ImageChef Inc., is now available for iPhone and iPod touch devices from the Apple App store. Centered around parties and events, TuneTug allows the host to open up control of their device’s music player to event attendees, allowing them to share control of the playlist.
Adding a game-like element to a party, viewers on any smartphone can “tug up” and “tug down” on a song by tapping the song. Song votes are synced automatically to the host’s music device which updates the playlist for a truly real-time, social music experience.
“TuneTug makes the party more interactive by allowing everyone to have a say in the music selection while eliminating the power struggle over the music. It’s a democratic and fun way to contribute.” said Margaux Avedisian, a producer on the project.
While the core service runs in the cloud, the host mobile device playing the music must have TuneTug installed.
For party participants, users can interact and vote on any mobile device, including Android and Blackberry devices using the mobile web. Wireless ‘Wi-Fi’ is not required, enabling TuneTug uses such as road trips and outdoor parties. Users of the TuneTug application can easily connect to an event in progress using GPS location detection.
TuneTug also provides a dynamic web site which shows upcoming playlist as well as who is voting on what music. The party host can display the site with a video monitor or projector at the party.
